Soup Kitchen

We are offering lunch to-go only. Our dining room is closed currently and will reopen when it's safe to do so.

Lunch is open to anyone who shows up between the hours of 11:00am-12:00pm, Monday-Friday.

There is no registration or requirement to eat with us. If you show up, you will be served. There is no proselytizing, no questions asked, and no discrimination of any kind.

Food Pantry

Our Food Pantry is open Monday-Friday,12:30pm-1:30pm, year round. We are closed for Federal Holidays that fall on weekdays.

Normally, our Food Pantry is a Client-Choice pantry, which means we allow you to "shop" inside, but because we are not able to accommodate guests inside our building, we are providing pre-packed groceries.

You are able to come once a calendar month. We provide enough food for three days.

How to get an appointment for the Food Pantry:

We have partnered with Plentiful to provide appointments to our guests for the pantry. To schedule an appointment:

Via Text Message

  1. Text the word "SAFH" to 726-879 (PANTRY)
  2. Wait for the system to text you back - this may take a few minutes.
  3. Respond to the questions that the system asks (e.g. Name, Date of Birth, Zip Code, Number of People in the Household, etc.)
  4. Select your preferred appointment date and time

Do not call the number - it is for text messaging only. As of now, there is no online website to make an appointment, you must text.

We strongly encourage our guests to make their own appointments, but we understand not everyone may have access or the ability to do so. If you are unable to make an appointment, you may come in person at 1:00pm, and if there are any appointment times left for the day, you will be assigned an appointment time. You will also receive an appointment for the next month, if you choose to receive one.

Household verification:

The Food Pantry is open to all who have some kind of housing, and can provide proof for the number in their household. If it's your first time, bring your documents with you, and we will register you with our pantry. If for your first time, you don't have anything, that is no problem. You will still be served, but only receive food for one person, and not your entire household. You will need to bring documentation with you next time.

Proof can take on many forms, including but not limited to... a lease stating how many live in your home, bringing multiple IDs with the same address/apartment, official mail (utility, New York City document, etc.) sent to multiple people at the same address, or anything else that will provide us with an accurate number of the people living in a household. If you have questions about eligibility, email us at info@safhnyc.org.

PLEASE NOTE: Pantry bags may contain food purchased with funds from TEFAP. By receiving these foods, you are certifying that you meet TEFAP eligibility requirements. For more information or questions, email alex@safhnyc.org.
